Qualified candidates will have experience in mussel identification and survey techniques, demonstrable experience diving at the advance or higher level, dive planning and boat operation experience. Other highly desirable experience would include threatened and endangered certifications.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as be responsible for assisting program leads with implementation, quality control, data analysis and interpretation. Travel to, and participation in, ecological and field operations is required as needed to assure the reliability of the work. Occasional overtime, weekend, or evening work may also be required if necessary to meet deadlines. The ability to be a team player and to maintain excellent client relationships is essential.
Candidates should have a minimum of B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife, Environmental, Zoology, Ecology, Fisheries, Aquatic Ecology or related discipline with 5 to10 years of experience in environmental consulting and natural resource coordination. Candidates should have a broad background in federal and state natural resource regulations, freshwater ecology, endangered fish or invertebrate species and freshwater mussels. Advanced or higher level diver certifications and experience with dive planning are a plus. Candidates should be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.

Normandeau Associates, Inc., an employee-owned environmental consulting firm specializing in water and natural resources issues, is looking for an aquatic biologist to manage our Marine Sciences Group in Bedford, NH. We seek a motivated individual to join a dedicated team of experienced scientists in a growing company that prides itself on applied scientific research and monitoring. The Marine Services Group is composed of offices providing: Marine Science, Biological Laboratory, Technical Data Processing and field services offices located in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Each of these offices have managers that will report to the successful candidate. These offices combine to provide aquatic and marine consulting services to a variety of clients nationwide.
Responsibilities include development of business plans, forecasting sales for these offices and managing to meet the forecasts, proposal review, technical review, personnel management, and business development.
The successful candidate will also be expected to manage marine-related projects. Anticipated project roles include: providing senior technical expertise, project planning, schedules, establishing project budgets, coordinating project team schedules, progress reports and coordination with various local, state, and federal environmental agencies as well as internal staff.
Qualifications include a B.S. or advanced degree in an aquatic or related science with 7-10 years of management experience. The successful candidate will have specific technical expertise related to the marine environment and in the permitting, development of sampling and study plans and monitoring of various marine projects. Specific experience is necessary with at least one following types of projects: ports or waterways developments; large scale water withdrawal facilities; offshore wind projects; underwater cables or pipelines. Excellent communication and writing skills are expected along with the ability to analyze data. Candidates should be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.

This position will include a focus on developing technology solutions to reduce bat impacts from energy development along with assisting Normandeau’s terrestrial and offshore permitting teams with bat-related project design, technical writing, and acoustic analyses. Education and experience requirements include a M.S. in ecology, wildlife biology, or related scientific discipline, including significant training and/or experience with bats and at least 5 years of professional experience.
