A Legacy Built Over Time

1970

Normandeau Associates is founded by Donald Normandeau, PhD, Manchester, NH.

1974

The company moves to its newly designed and constructed HQ in Bedford, NH.

1975

Normandeau opens Piscataqua Marine Laboratory in Portsmouth, NH.

1981

Normandeau acquires Texas Instruments Ecological Services (TI) – expanding into NY.

1987

Normandeau is purchased by Thermo Electron (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Waltham, MA.

1988

  • Pam Hall becomes CEO of Normandeau Associates, Inc.
  • Normandeau expands into the southeast through acquisition of a company in New Ellenton, SC (now Aiken, SC).

1994

Normandeau expands into the Mid-Atlantic with the purchase of RMC Environmental Services based in PA.

2000

  • Thermo Electron divests of non-core businesses.
  • Normandeau becomes a privately owned, woman-led business, with Pam Hall as President/CEO.

2006

Normandeau acquires Marine Research Inc in MA in order to expand its energy sector business and marine science capabilities.

2009

Bob Varney, former USEPA Region 1 Administrator, and Curt Thalken, former USACE New England District Commander, are hired.

2011

Normandeau acquires Pandion in FL to support expansion of its wind energy services and technology development.

2012

Senior management from the buyout in 2000 sell remaining shares to the company; Normandeau becomes 100% employee-owned through the ESOP.

2015

Curt Thalken is promoted to Senior Vice President/COO; Bob Varney becomes President; Pam Hall remains CEO and is elected Board Chair.

2020

Col (Ret.) Curt Thalken is appointed CEO.

2024

Normandeau’s Gainesville, FL office moves to San Felasco Tech City in Alachua, FL as an intentional step in our socially responsible journey with Tech City’s live/work/play mindset.

Sustainability

Normandeau is committed to environmental stewardship in our business practices. Our Corporate Social Responsibility Committee tracks Normandeau’s sustainability efforts in the areas of Employees, Facility Updates & Energy Conservation, Operations & Governance, Community Involvement & Volunteerism, and Technology Development. This committee is also charged with reviewing and recommending actions that will make our buildings, operations, workforce, and community more sustainable. Employee Ownership

Normandeau’s ESOP Advisory Committee (EAC) has continued with its mission “to create an ownership culture by serving as ESOP advocates; communicating the meaning of owner’s rights, benefits, privileges and responsibilities; and encouraging participation and involvement in the company.” Serving as a facilitator of communication and trust among and between employee owners and management, the EAC has organized numerous volunteer efforts, sponsored company wide team building activities and informational sessions, hosts an annual employee photo calendar contest, creates and distributes regular employee newsletters, and fields employee suggestions and inquiries.
