Normandeau Associates Biologists Become EPT Taxonomists

Stowe, PA — Monday, July 07, 2008 — Normandeau Associates, Inc.has one of the largest biological laboratory capabilities in the eastern U.S. From its three laboratory facilities our scientist analyze and report on samples taken from marine and aquatic sites around the country. Recently, several biologists from Normandeau Associates have become certified EPT taxonomists. EPT is an acronym for three orders of insects: mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies. George Christian, Bryan Lees, and Stacy Lathrop passed the taxonomic certification test for EPT given by The North American Benthological Society (NABS) in Berkley Springs, West Virginia. Passing this test requires 95% identification accuracy. Many water quality assessment programs utilize the identification of benthic macroinvertebrates as a tool for determining water and habitat quality in rivers and streams. High quality taxonomy is crucial, and this test verifies that those who pass are knowledgeable and skilled taxonomists. Normandeau Associates believes that this certification further insures that our clients receive the highest level of service for their projects.
