Normandeau to Complete Final EIS for Proposed I-93 Exit 4A Interchange in New Hampshire | Bedford, NH — Wednesday, December 16, 2009 — Normandeau Associates will be assisting CLD Consulting Engineers, Inc. and the Towns of Derry and Londonderry in finalizing the EIS for the proposed I-93 Exit 4A Interchange project in New Hampshire. Normandeau's role will be to bring the environmental document from the Draft EIS to the Final EIS stage, and to prepare the Record of Decision and related permit applications. Water quality concerns, particularly related to chloride from road salting activities, were one of the primary issues identified during the Draft EIS comment period. To address this issue, and the implications on newly adopted TMDL requirements for salt use in the project study area, Normandeau is conducting a year long sodium chloride monitoring program in selected streams within the study area. Water quality modeling will also be used to determine the assimilative capacity for various other pollutants, with BMPs developed to mitigate exceedances. Normandeau will also assess stream habitat value and prepare stream relocation designs that maintain/improve the habitat and comply with water quality standards. In order to address concerns over wildlife habitat, Normandeau will review vernal pools and wildlife corridors and, if needed, evaluate mitigation measures to ensure wildlife passage. Normandeau will also work with local towns to develop a Master Mitigation plan to address secondary and cumulative impacts related to the project.
