FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Normandeau Associates Chosen to Prepare
Third-Party EIS for Off-Shore Wind Farm
Bedford, NH. October 1, 2006 – Normandeau
Associates has been selected by Minerals Management Service, as part
of a team led by Mangi Environmental Group, to prepare a third-party
EIS for a proposed wind farm to be located off the southern coast of
Long Island.
This project, proposed by the Long Island Offshore Wind Park (LIOWP) consortium of Long Island Power Authority and FPL Energy, will consist of 40 wind turbines located 3.6 miles southwest of Jones Beach, to produce 140 megawatts of electricity. The project will cover 8 square miles of ocean bottom and will be connected to Long Island by a 10-mile long 138k transmission cable.
Normandeau Associates will lead the evaluation efforts of marine impacts related to the project. Our scientists will evaluate and analyze data collected by LIOWP's consultants involving benthic, fisheries, water quality and threatened and endangered species, and will develop and prepare impact assessments for viable alternatives.
