Public Outreach Activities for the FAA and Alaska Department of Transportation Continue

Vancouver, Washington.  May 17, 2007 – Normandeau Associates Inc., in support of the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will resume EIS public outreach activities in Sitka, Alaska this month with an open house for the FAA and Alaska Department of Transportation. Building on input from previous public meetings, the FAA is now refining the range of possible alternatives for the proposed runway safety area. At the public meeting, participants will:  review the range of alignment alternatives being considered; learn about the environmental studies completed to date; meet members of the project team; and comment on the alternatives.

In addition to the runway safety area improvements, other proposed EIS projects include: installation of an approach light system, construction of a parallel taxiway, construction of a seaplane pullout, and repairs and improvements to the Airport's seawall.

The project is working with tribal governments, and federal, state and local agencies that have jurisdiction or interest in environmental impacts associated with the proposed projects.
