FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Normandeau Associates Leading Public Involvement for Washington State Department of Transportation SR 502 Corridor Widening Project

Vancouver, WA. March 12, 2007 – The Vancouver, Washington office of Normandeau Associates is leading the Public Involvement and Access Hearing components of the SR 502 Corridor Widening Project.

SR 502 is a state highway running east from a future interchange with Interstate 5 approximately five miles to the Battle Ground, Washington city limits. It is a highly congested two-lane corridor, primarily rural in nature with a significant number of driveway approaches.  The SR 502 / NE 72nd Avenue intersection is a rural commercial center; further east, the corridor transitions into Clark County’s Urban Growth Boundary and the City of Battle Ground.

This project requires an Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA).  This process will also satisfy federal regulations to establish access along the corridor during construction and will conclude with the formal Access Hearing.

Major elements of the Public Involvement program include:

– Stakeholder interviews

– Public meetings – traditional open houses and less formal, small group meetings to work through specific issues

– Informational kiosks

– Newsletters, web page, meeting advertisements

– Media management

– Access Hearing including Access Plans and Right of Way (ROW) Plans

– Public and Agency Involvement / Outreach including coordination with local, state and federal agencies and private property owners
