Normandeau Assists PSNH to Develop an NPDES Compliance Strategy
Bedford, NH. February 12, – Normandeau Associates is assisting the Public Service Company of New Hampshire, Inc. (PSNH), a Northeast Utilities Company, to develop a strategy for compliance with the July 9, 2004 §316(b) Phase II Rule for the Schiller (150 mw) and Newington (400 mw) Stations. Both generating stations are located on an estuary in coastal New Hampshire called the Piscataqua River. Normandeau scientists are also assisting PSNH with the Merrimack Station (400mw) on the Merrimack River in Bow, New Hampshire.
For each of the plants, Normandeau has prepared, submitted (to USEPA Region 1), and defended the Proposal for Information Collection (PIC) and Quality Assurance Plans for new studies as required by the §316(b) Phase II Rule, and is performing the entrainment, entrainment survival, impingement, and impingement survival studies at the cooling water intake structures required by the PIC as part of the Comprehensive Demonstrative Study (CDS). Normandeau will be participating with a team of engineers and economists to provide the biological expertise needed to perform cost/cost and cost/benefit analyses that may be required for the CDS.
