Normandeau Provides Environmental Services to the Maine Department of Transportation Bailey Farm Project

Bedford, New Hampshire. May 14, 2007 – Normandeau Associates, Inc., recently provided environmental consulting services to the Maine Department of Transportation in support of the Bailey Farm stream bank stabilization and riparian restoration project.  Normandeau developed bank stabilization alternatives for the restoration of the rapidly eroding stream bank and riparian zone for two sites located along the West Branch of the Ellis River in Andover, Maine.   Primary services for the project included:

• Assessed existing information for streamflow, erosion and deposition along the West Branch of the river.
• Performed fluvial, hydraulic and riparian assessments of both sites.
• Conducted field assessments of existing fluvial conditions and identified bankfull geomorphic indicators.
• Conducted terrestrial ecology assessments to aid in the development of a riparian planting plan.
• Developed conceptual stream bank stabilization plans and prepared design plans, specifications and cost estimates for the selected plan.

This project is anticipated to significantly reduce sedimentation in the aquatic habitat, and important trout fishery, as well as protect loss of productive farm land and restore riparian habitat functions and values.  This project has recently gone to bid, and construction is expected to be completed in late 2007.
